Major damage to a district heating pipe in Bucharest. CET Progress has been forcedly stopped / when the damage is estimated

The Termoenergetica Bucharest announces that on Sunday there was a major damage on the district heating pipe with a diameter of 1000 mm, at the intersection of Mihai Bravu road with Splaiul Unirii, under the Mihai Bravu Bridge. According to the company, due to the massive losses of thermal agent generated by this damage, Elcen decided to stop for the forced CET Progress, to prevent serious damage to the energy installations.
It is estimated that the remediation of the damage will be completed during the Monday night, and immediately after restoring the minimum operating parameters, CET Progresu will be restarted to resume the supply of the thermal agent.
“Today, August 17, 2025, there was a major damage on the district heating pipe with a diameter of 1000 mm, at the intersection of Mihai Bravu road with the Splaiul Unirii, under the Mihai Bravu Bridge. Due to the massive losses of thermal agent generated by this damage, Elcen decided to stop the CET Progress, to prevent the level of the ENEME,” Sunday evening Termoenergetica Bucharest.
Thermoenergetica states that her teams are mobilized in the field since the appearance of damage. “Pumps have already been mounted to evacuate the water from the gallery, and the repair works are in progress, in order to remedy the situation as quickly as possible.”
The company estimates that the remediation of the damage “will be completed during the Monday night, and immediately after restoring the minimum operating parameters, CET Progresu will be restarted to resume the supply of the thermal agent safely”.
“We apologize for the created discomfort and we assure you that our teams make every effort to resume the supply of the thermal agent as soon as possible,” the Termoenergetica announcement shows.

And Electrocentrale Bucharest (ELCEN) informs, in a separate announcement, that CET Progress was stopped on Sunday afternoon, due to the major failures in the district heating network operated by the Municipal Company of the Termoenergetica Bucharest, which feeds the final customers with the thermal agent.
“The ELCEN and thermoenergetics teams have made every effort to maintain the hydraulic balance, but the technical conditions did not allow safe operation. Thus, to prevent serious damage to the energy installations in CET Progress, the central was forced,” says ELCEN.
Elcen also mentions that, due to the huge damage and losses of the thermal agent operated by thermo -energy, CET Progresu has worked in the last days at the damage limit.
Thus, according to Elcen, the company of the Ministry of Energy that produces the thermal agent in the Capital, “CET Progresu will be restarted as soon as the Municipal Company thermo -energy will remedy and will ensure the minimum operating parameters of the boiler.”
