Kondrat yes Ipat

On this day, the Apostle’s memory is noted from seventy crath, which in the 1st century preached the Word of God in Athens and wore the rank of bishop.

Also on this day, the Church honors two holy martyrs who died for faith in the 8th century, – Bishop of Ipathy and Presbyter Andrei.

In Rus', Kondrata (Codes) and Ipata considered the day of fertility and agriculture. On this day, it was necessarily supposed to work – first of all, to fertilize the earth with fresh manure. Wise people said: “You will not come idle on Kondrat and Ipat – you will be rich.” However, there was another belief: as if a simple person not to gain wealth, no matter how he works. “Kondrat with Ipat helps rich,” they said about this.

At this time, tramples began. In the evening, Ovins drowned – two -story buildings for the threshing of grain. A fire was bred on the lower floor, the warmth of which through the lattice floor passed to the upper floor, where the sheaves were laid out. The heat dried the ears, and the grains were then easily prayed. The first ovin on Kondrat and Ipat peasants called the birthday, and for thresherers, oatmeal was cooked for breakfast. “The owner is a roof for bread, and a pot of threshing workers,” they said. In the evening, workers were treated to pies.

On this day, they noticed what the weather was worth. It was believed that it will last without a change of four weeks. They also knew that if the sun shines with a sharp north-eastern wind, then the winter would be cold.
