Are Poles really “eco”? The truth came to light

As Panparagon's analysts emphasize, for consumers paper bags remain less attractive, mainly due to the higher price, while plastic, they are still perceived as a more economical choice.
“Plastic bags are still winning with paper, because they are cheaper and more practical. This shows that we think economically rather than ecologically every day. On the other hand, the fact that we are more and more often packing shopping in reusable bags brought from home” – says Antonina Grzelak from the Panparagon application
When do we buy bags most often?
The data shows that Saturday is invariably the day of the greatest demand for bags. In 2023, as much as 8.1 percent Saturday's receipts contained a bag, and although in the following years this percentage decreased (7.31 percent in 2024 and 6.85 percent in 2025), Saturday remains a leader in each of the analyzed periods. This is a clear signal that it is then that Poles do the greatest purchases of the week, and with a larger basket more often they decide on additional packaging.
At the other extreme is Sunday, when the bags appear the least, with a result of about 5 percent. receipts in the examined years.
Panparagon is an application that allows not only to store receipts, but also search for promotions. Each month, users add on average nearly 2 million evidence of purchase. Thanks to this anonymous data, we can observe the changing shopping habits of Poles.
