After facing relegation with Hermannstadt, 25-year-old midfielder Dragoș Albu, who has experienced three consecutive drops in the Superliga, has found a new home in Italy’s fifth tier, signing with SS Taranto.
Last season, Albu played for Hermannstadt, where the team fell to Liga II after losing 3-5 on aggregate in the relegation playoffs against FC Voluntari. Prior to this, he faced similar challenges with FCU Craiova during the 2023-2024 season and with Gloria Buzău in 2024-2025.
Dragoș Albu Introduced as New Signing for SS Taranto
SS Taranto officially announced the permanent acquisition of Dragoș Albu, a Romanian midfielder born in 2001, following his recent tenure in Romania’s top division with Hermannstadt.
Born in Plenița on March 15, 2001, Albu is known for his impressive physical attributes (186 cm) and notable technical skills. He developed his football talents at the renowned youth academy of Dutch club Utrecht, where he made his professional debut in the second tier (Eerste Divisie).
In 2020, he returned to Romania to play for FCU Craiova, where he became a key player. With the Craiova club, he achieved promotion to Liga I by winning the Liga II championship in the 2020/2021 season, making a total of 82 appearances in the national top league.
In recent years, Albu has played for Gloria Buzău and Hermannstadt, showcasing his value and reliability at this level with 38 matches played and three goals scored in the last league season.
He also boasts an impressive record with Romania’s youth national teams, culminating in 11 caps (including one goal) for the Under-21 team, with which he participated in the 2023 European Championship finals.
SS Taranto welcomed Dragoș with open arms, as noted in their official statement: “We warmly welcome Dragoș on behalf of the entire ‘rossoblu’ family.”
