The Afipsky oil refinery, located in Krasnodar region in southern Russia, was engulfed in flames early Tuesday following a drone attack, as reported by regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev on Telegram, according to Reuters and Kyiv Independent.
Kondratyev revealed that two individuals have died and another two were injured due to debris from the drones falling in the area.
This refinery is one of the largest oil processing facilities in southern Russia, producing gasoline, diesel, gas condensate distillates, heavy oil residues, and sulfur.
The plant processes approximately 6.25 million tons of crude oil annually, which accounts for around 2% of Russia’s total refining output. It has previously been targeted in prior Ukrainian attacks.
Social media images from local residents appear to show a significant fire erupting at the refinery. During the attack, air raid alerts were activated in the Krasnodar region.
According to Russian online reports, air defense systems also engaged near the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in the Rostov region, though no immediate damage to that facility was reported.
The extent of the damage caused by the fire at the Afipsky refinery remains unclear at the time of publication.
