Severe Weather Causes Power Outages for Up to 200,000 in Northeast Poland

Severe weather conditions have triggered widespread power outages in northeast Poland, impacting as many as 200,000 customers. Initially, Energa Operator reported disruptions in the Płock and Toruń areas, later including Olsztyn as well. PGE Dystrybucja is also addressing problems in Podlaskie.

As of 1:00 PM, additional reports confirmed that Olsztyn was also experiencing mass outages, with over 56,000 customers without electricity.

Impact on Customers Escalates

The number of customers without power in northeastern Poland has risen to 145,000, particularly in Podlaskie, due to mass outages caused by strong winds, as reported by PGE Dystrybucja on Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters in Podlaskie recorded nearly 700 incidents by 3:00 PM Saturday, primarily related to fallen trees and wind damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

PGE Dystrybucja in Białystok covers not only Podlaskie but also parts of Warmia and Mazury. As of 2:00 PM, around 145,000 customers were without power. The most severe situation is around Białystok, where 71,000 customers in the Białystok County experienced outages.

In parts of Warmia and Mazury, the Białystok branch of the company reported that 36,000 customers in the Ełk Energy Region were without power.

A meeting was held at the Podlaskie Voivodeship Office in Białystok to address the ongoing weather situation, attended by Deputy Voivode Paweł Krutul, heads of the State Fire Service, and representatives from PGE Dystrybucja, according to reports.
