CFR Cluj’s Andrei Cordea Expresses Frustration After Opening Loss

CFR Cluj started their new Superliga season on a disappointing note, losing 2-1 to Oțelul Galați in the opening match. The team, managed by Antonio Folha, delivered a lackluster performance, with a spectacular goal by Patrick in the 86th minute securing all three points for the visitors.

After the match, Andrei Cordea, who scored the only goal for Cluj, expressed his disappointment and discussed the challenges facing the team.

Cordea Reflects on Defeat: “Nothing Went Right Today”

The CFR player acknowledged that the team’s goal was to win, admitting that their performance fell short of expectations in Galați.

“We came here to win. No one expected us to lose, but we couldn’t manage it. Nothing went right today, and we left without the three points that were our objective. From my perspective, it is normal for the situation at the club to seem off, especially since we don’t have any central defenders who can play,” he stated.

He added, “It’s clear that the two players who filled in are not central defenders, but they helped as much as they could. I want to thank everyone. We are united, trying to stick together and not fall into the traps set by media and club narratives. I hate losing; I can’t stand it.”

“My Goal Is to Win the Championship”

Cordea praised his teammates who played out of position and emphasized that his primary concern is the lack of victories.

“What matters most to me is winning, no matter if, for example, a forward plays as a central defender or if players are sacrificed. Both Abeid and Djokovic sacrificed themselves as much as they could today. The only thing weighing on me is that we are not winning. I give my all on the field to earn those three points.”

Despite the poor start to the season, Cordea insists that his goals remain unchanged, even though he claims the management has not communicated an official objective yet.

“For me, the goal is still the same. Unfortunately, the management hasn’t come to tell us a specific objective, but my goal is the same as last year: to win the championship. You may think I am naive and not believe me, but I do believe it,” he concluded.
