Poles Emerge as Europe’s Top Savvy Shoppers, Study Shows

According to a recent study by Ariadna for Amazon.pl, Polish consumers have established themselves as the most analytical shoppers in Europe.

The report indicates that 74% of respondents compare prices across multiple online stores before making a purchase, while 67% actively limit unnecessary spending on non-essential items.

Poles Cut Back on Non-Essential Purchases

Furthermore, 41% of surveyed Polish consumers admit that they spend more per order than they did a year ago, marking the highest percentage in Europe, where the average stands at around 28%. In contrast, 67% of Poles are reducing their purchases of non-essential products, reinforcing the country’s position as a leader in savings compared to Germany’s 53.7% and the Netherlands’ 41.9%.

Despite less frequent spontaneous purchases, when Polish consumers decide to buy something specific, they are prepared to allocate a larger budget. Additionally, 31% check prices well in advance to validate promotions, while 32% create detailed shopping lists prior to upcoming events. Notably, 30% wait for promotional periods, and 25% seldom pay full price when they know a sale is imminent. These habits reflect a growing preference for strategic shopping solutions, according to Amazon’s findings.

“Customers in Poland are highly conscious partners. They do not make impulse purchases; instead, they meticulously plan their spending and carefully evaluate every promotion. Our annual Prime Day event on Amazon.pl is designed to support these strategic shopping habits. This year, the four-day event allows customers ample time to analyze and decide without pressure,” stated Katarzyna Ciechanowska-Ciosk, managing director of Amazon.pl.

The Ariadna study reveals that for 68% of Polish customers, recommendations from friends are crucial, while 65% value reviews from other shoppers. Research by HarrisX indicates that 88% of Poles consider free delivery the most important feature of subscriptions, and 84% prioritize delivery speed. Notably, Polish consumers value psychological comfort, with one in seven appreciating subscriptions for the sense of control they provide and one in six for reducing stress in urgent situations.
