Petrolul Ploiești Parts Ways with Gheorghe Grozav After Successful Stint

Petrolul Ploiești has confirmed the departure of Gheorghe Grozav, a key figure in the club’s recent history, through an official announcement.
Grozav has played six seasons for Petrolul Ploiești, from 2012 to 2014 and again from 2022 to 2026, and won a Romanian Cup with the team. He had a contract that extended until the summer of 2027.

The collaboration between FC Petrolul Ploiești and Gicu Grozav concluded this summer by mutual agreement.
The relationship between the club and Grozav was special from the beginning until its end. The fans quickly embraced him, and he certainly delivered in return. Over six seasons at the “Ilie Oană” Stadium, Grozav made 210 appearances in various competitions, including the league, Romanian Cup, Supercup, and Europa League qualifiers.
He scored 54 goals and created memorable moments, serving as both team captain and top scorer in recent years.

Most of Grozav’s career appearances were for Petrolul, totaling 210. He also played for teams in Romania such as Alba Iulia, U Cluj, and Dinamo, as well as international clubs including Standard Liege, Terek Grozny, Karabukspor, Bursaspor, Kisvarda, Diosgyor, and MTK Budapest. His current market value is estimated at 300,000 euros by industry sources. In addition to the Romanian Cup, he has also won a Belgian Cup with Standard Liege.
Gheorghe Grozav has also represented Romania, earning 30 caps and scoring five goals for the national team.
