The scale falls off in pieces: a glass of vinegar cleans the kettle in 15 minutes without brushes and expensive chemicals

Anyone who regularly boils water notices over time that a thick white or yellowish coating appears on the bottom and walls of the kettle. These are calcium and magnesium salts from hard water. They not only spoil the taste of tea and coffee, but also cause the heating element to work with overload, increasing energy consumption and noise during boiling. But there is a simple and affordable solution. You will need regular table vinegar and water.

Scale is not just an aesthetic problem. The layer of salts acts as a heat insulator, causing the metal to overheat and fail faster. The acid dissolves these mineral deposits at the molecular level without scratching the surface, unlike hard metal sponges.

What you need for cleaning

For the procedure, you do not need to buy special expensive descaling products.

What you have in any kitchen is enough:

  • Table vinegar (9%) – 100–150 ml (about half a glass).
  • Clean water.

Step-by-step action plan

In order for the procedure to be as effective and safe for the equipment as possible, it is recommended to follow a clear sequence:

  • Pour vinegar into an empty kettle.
  • Add regular water to the maximum mark.
  • Turn on the kettle and bring the solution to a boil.
  • After boiling, do not pour out the liquid immediately. Leave the solution inside for 15-20 minutes so that the acid completely softens even the hardest areas of plaque.
  • Drain the solution and thoroughly rinse the inside of the kettle under running water. To completely remove the residual smell of vinegar, boil and drain one portion of clean water.

Important Safety Instructions

Use this method only for stainless steel, glass or quality plastic teapots. Vinegar is not suitable for aluminum kettles, as the acid may react with the metal.

When the vinegar is boiling, be sure to open the window or turn on the hood so that the pungent odor does not linger in the kitchen.
