A year after he announced his retirement, Michael Douglas returns to the big screen in a film by a famous director

After announcing his retirement, the famous actor Michael Douglas has finally returned to the film sets. The 81-year-old American actor has joined Oliver Stone's new film, entitled “White Lies”, according to Variety, writes News.ro.

Douglas announced last summer that he was taking a step back from film work and that he was no longer going to accept new roles, wanting to devote himself to his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

However, the actor who has a career of six decades behind him is making an unexpected comeback in front of the cameras.

Absent from the filming sets in 2022, the American actor will work on a project that he considers up to expectations.

The feature film “White Lies” also marks his reunion with Oliver Stone, more than 15 years after “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010),” the sequel to the 1987 film “Wall Street,” which earned him the Oscar for best actor.

Recently, Michael Douglas explained that he will pay attention to proposals if they are worth the effort: “I don't consider myself officially retired, because if an exceptional project comes along, I might come back. But otherwise, I'm very happy to simply watch my wife (actress Catherine Zeta-Jones – no) work,” said the famous actor.

According to Variety, the feature film “White Lies” will also reunite Willem Dafoe, Ellen Barkin and Homer Gere. Filming, now completed, took place between Europe and Asia.

“This team was a real delight from start to finish. And the Italian team was the warmest I've ever worked with. I'm deeply grateful for this opportunity,” Oliver Stone said in a statement. The director signs his first feature film since 2016's “Snowden.”

Oliver Stone, who is also the screenwriter, describes the film as “a personal story about people and their relationships”. The feature film is presented as “a break from his previous works, offering an intimate and emotional drama that explores family, mourning, pain and reveals how love can transform throughout our lives”.

No information has been released yet, but “White Lies” should hit theaters in 2028.
