Carrots in June are more important than watering: 1 simple step – and root vegetables are the size of an elbow and sweeter than honey

The key action in June when caring for carrots is loosening, experienced gardener Veronika Polivkina reminds summer residents. At this time, carrots are actively growing tops, forming root crops, and consuming an increased amount of moisture and oxygen. If the soil is dense, then the carrots begin to grow not in depth, but to the sides, becoming small and crooked.

Secrets of proper loosening

You can loosen the beds only between the rows to a depth of 2-3 cm. Avoid the roots so as not to accidentally damage them.

It is best to loosen the soil after rain and watering – this way it will become airier and maximally saturated with oxygen.

Promptly get rid of all dense lumps and stones in the soil. Such compactions also lead to root crops growing crooked and horned.

Features and nuances

Don't forget to thin the carrots. There should be a distance of 4-5 cm between plants, otherwise there will be no room for root crops to grow and develop. Feel free to remove all weak, frail shoots to free up space for the “strong” ones.

You can feed carrots with organic ash fertilizer. Mix a glass of ash in 10 liters of water and pour the beds over the moist soil.

As for watering, it should be rare (once a week), but plentiful. If the weather is hot and dry, water the carrots 2 times a week. When watering, try not to get on the tops, as this increases the risk of disease.
