The Poltava Victor Bazhan Art Museum plans to buy a monument to the Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov, which was recently dismantled in the capital. The founder of the museum told the publication “Suspilne Poltava” about this on June 8.
Bazhan explained that he wants to do this in order to preserve the sculpture “for future generations,” as well as “to remove the unbearable burden” from the sculptor’s daughter, who now owns the monument.
“I am concerned that artistic heritage is disappearing,” he told reporters.
According to him, he does not plan to popularize or glorify Bulgakov, and he will not make an exhibition from the monument, since this is prohibited by law. The founder of the museum noted that he plans to leave it “for storage” in the museum’s courtyard, which is his private territory.
The cost of the monument is now being discussed with the sculptor’s family, the publication writes.
