A young Irkutsk resident who decided to make money from “swatting” will be tried in Krasnoyarsk

An Irkutsk teenager will stand trial in Krasnoyarsk for making a false call about mining, the regional prosecutor's office reported.
Interest in “swatting”—deliberately false reports of a crime threat to attract the attention of law enforcement agencies — A 14-year-old teenager from Irkutsk began to manifest symptoms in January 2024. He created an account and several channels in one of the instant messengers under a pseudonym.
“In them he posted information materials, as well as recordings of his false calls about mining and a price list for services: training materials, „swatting“account blocking and anonymous numbers», — explained the prosecutor's office.
In one of the chats, the teenager met a user who was also hiding under a false name. This virtual acquaintance suggested that the boy work together and earn money on orders for “swatting» for different people.
A 15-year-old schoolboy was caught in Irkutsk for sending false messages about mining in exchange for money.
“They entered into a criminal conspiracy, exchanged applications and made calls one by one using anonymous numbers purchased through bots and applications to hide real data. So, one January day, while in a computer club in Irkutsk, a guy carried out an order to falsely mine a school No. 144 in Krasnoyarsk. He called the police, introduced himself as a terrorist and reported an explosive device», — told the prosecutor's office.

Police and other emergency services responded to the scene but found nothing after searching. After that, they were able to identify the caller and detain him. The police reported that the guy may be involved in 15 crimes committed during 2024.
The teenager fully admitted his guilt and repented. The prosecutor confirmed the charge of knowingly making a false report about an impending act of terrorism (Part 2 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). He faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to 2.5 years. The criminal investigation against the customer continues.
