The Bulgarian government plans to stop arms supplies to Ukraine and also calls on the European Union to reconsider sanctions against the aggressor country of the Russian Federation. This was stated on June 9 by the country's Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov, who was quoted by Bloomberg.
Stoyanov said that Ukraine does not need additional weapons, but, above all, people. He also called for a “just peace” that should be determined by both sides of the conflict.
Bloomberg emphasized that this would contradict the EU's attempts to put pressure on Russia to end the war.
The agency noted that Stoyanov’s position coincides with the approach of the ex-President of Bulgaria and current Prime Minister Rumen Radev, who opposes resolving the war on the battlefield and criticizes military assistance to Ukraine from the EU. He also calls for a review of sanctions against Russia because they allegedly harm the European economy.
The decision to likely end support came amid calls from the leaders of France, Germany and Great Britain for Russia to agree to a ceasefire and the start of peace negotiations, the media emphasized.
