On June 8, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky spoke on Telegram about his telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
He called the conversation “very positive.” According to Zelensky, it took place during a stop at Chisinau airport.
“Grateful for your willingness to work as actively as possible already in these weeks to give impetus to diplomacy to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. We understand how many eyes of the world are focused on the situation around Iran. But our common goal regarding peace in Europe is on the agenda. We discussed prospects in the context of the G7 summit and other events in June. Informed us about the data we have regarding what the mood in Moscow is,” the president wrote.
Along the way, he thanked the Americans “for the words of respect for the Ukrainians and the positive assessment of Ukraine’s positions.”
Earlier, Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported about the conversation between the head of the Ukrainian state and the Americans; Zelensky’s communications adviser, Dmitry Lytvyn, confirmed that such a conversation took place. They did not indicate what they were talking about. One could assume that the topic of conversation was, in particular, the likely visit of Witkoff and Kushner to Ukraine. In May, Zelensky said that Trump’s representatives could come to Kyiv “at the turn of spring – summer.”
