A native of Krasnoyarsk, Mirra Andreeva received for winning the French Open (Roland Garros) $3.2 million. This is a record amount of prize money among all Russian tennis players in history, writes Sport-Express.

The previous achievement in women's tennis belonged to Maria Sharapova – in 2014 she earned $2.25 million from the same tournament. The absolute record among Russians was previously held by Daniil Medvedev with $2.5 million for winning the US Open in 2021.

Let us remind you that the 19-year-old native of Krasnoyarsk won the Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career. In the Roland Garros final on June 6, she beat Poland's Maja Chwalinska with a score of 6:3, 6:2. After this victory, Andreeva rose to sixth place in the WTA rankings and became one of the three youngest Grand Slam champions in the 21st century – only Sharapova and Briton Emma Raducanu were younger than her at the time of her victory.

Mirra Andreeva was congratulated on her victory in her hometown: posts about this were published by the first deputy governor of the region Sergei Ponomarenko, the Krasnoyarsk mayor’s office and the Yenisei football club, write gornovosti.ru. The triumph of the Russian athlete was also noted by her colleagues.

“I'm proud of you, Mirra. The celebration speaks for itself. Delighted, but not satisfied yet. The sign of a true champion,” wrote Maria Sharapova.
