After the drone in Constanța, a Romanian general from the command of the North Atlantic Alliance utters a phrase almost absent from Romania

“We will take all measures, but we cannot guarantee interception”, is a communication to Romanians, which is almost never used in our country. But it's the truth, believes Major General Adrian Ciolponea. He is the military officer who occupies the highest position assumed by Romania in the command structures of NATO.
Information, data and ideas less common in Romania were transmitted, in an interview for HotNews, by Major General Adrian Ciolponea, who works in Brussels, within the North Atlantic Alliance.
Immediately after the incident in Constanța, General Adrian Ciolponea had a long discussion and received many questions from journalist Victor Cozmei, a HotNews journalist specializing in defense.
The Romanian officer answered every question. The interview sparked strong reactions in the country, among the military who felt encouraged and in public opinion.
“A political risk that must be taken': to tell people the truth
The truth, believes General Ciolponea, is that “no one can guarantee where a drone will fall after interception”, explained the general, now in the command structures of NATO and who was general of paratroopers in Romania.
Major General Adrian Ciolponea holds the highest position assumed by Romania in the NATO command structures. Ciolponea works in one of the commands that deals precisely with the modernization of the North Atlantic Alliance for the “war of the future”.
The message to the population: “We will take all measures, but we cannot guarantee interception”
He says, in the interview for HotNews, that it is Romania's obligation to defend itself, to build systems to detect and destroy drones. Protecting yourself from drones is not something easy, added the military man, who has a doctoral thesis precisely in the war fought with drones.
“From this point of view there is also a political risk that must be assumed and that must sound like “Vom takes all measures, but we cannot guarantee interception and that there will be no collateral damage. We will notify the population in the area that we have all the means ready to intercept the drone, but we cannot guarantee the effect 100%“”.
The Romanian general from NATO says that this is “an extremely difficult decision”.
But, continues Ciolponea, “and for the pilot who is at the helm of a fighter plane, it is a very difficult decision to launch an air-to-air missile because he knows it will hit the target, he has that security, but he cannot know what will happen after the drone is hit. I tell you this as a military man.”
Ukraine has installed 14,500 acoustic sensors in a network, on the poles of the telephone networks, the general said. He explained why. The interview with General Adrian Ciolponea is published here.
