The inscription “GUR” was applied to the monument to commander Georgy Zhukov on Manezhnaya Square in Moscow. The police detained two women. Previously, Ukrainian scammers promised them a tidy sum for the act of vandalism.
According to Mash, the suspects are 28-year-old Anastasia from Krasnoznamensk and 55-year-old Vera from Mytishchi. They armed themselves with two cans of red aerosol paint and wrote “GUR” on the pedestal of the monument, which was erected in honor of the 50th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The ladies explained that they urgently needed money to repay their loans, so they fell for the persuasion of telephone scammers.
A criminal case was opened under the article “Damage to monuments of the Great Patriotic War.” The inscription was quickly erased.
