MAE, about the Soșoacă – Putin dialogue: “The loneliness of the aggressor cannot be hidden with guests who do not speak the least bit on behalf of their country”
“The presence alongside Russian officials and businessmen under the European sanctions regime of some European citizens does not validate the former and disqualifies the latter,” Andrei Țărnea, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a series of messages published on Sunday on X.
He does not directly name Diana Soșoacă, but indicates the event in Saint Petersburg where the MEP was present and addressed a direct message to Vladimir Putin in which he said that the Romanians are admirers of the Russian people and that they would like to have peace with Russia.
“No European country participated in the festival of supporters of Russia in St. Petersburg. The EU and its member states represent values incompatible with economic oligarchy and state capture or with regimes waging illegal wars of conquest against sovereign neighbors,” the MFA official wrote on X.
At the forum of St. Petersburg, Șoșoacă conveyed that Romania “does not have a president” and introduced herself as the president of SOS Romania, which she said is “the only opposition party”. In the reply given on Sunday, Țărnea tells him that he does not represent the Romanian state.
“Russia has tried to show that it is not isolated by parading the few embarrassing exceptions among the nearly half a billion European citizens. But the aggressor's loneliness cannot be hidden with guests who do not even speak for their country,” the spokesman wrote.

Beyond the dialogue with Putin, at the business forum nicknamed “Putin's Davos”, Şoșoacă spoke in the same panel where Marina Tauber, former vice-president of the Moldovan ȚOR party, wanted internationally after being sentenced to prison, spoke.
Diana Șoșoacă declared that Romania needs “diplomats of peace, not of confrontation” and that her presence in Saint Petersburg represents “a hand extended in favor of peace and dialogue”, after the tensions generated by the incident with the Russian drone falling over a block of flats in Galati.
