So, last year, ten children drowned in the region’s reservoirs over the summer. On August 19 last year, a boy drowned while swimming in the Chulym River near the dam in the city of Nazarovo. He was only 17 years old, he didn’t live to see his birthday for a little over a month. He was swimming on an unauthorized beach.

On June 19, two teenagers, 14 and 15 years old, drowned in the cities of Kansk and Krasnoyarsk, within five minutes of each other. In Kansk on the Taraika River, two friends decided to freshen up. One of them dived, although he did not know how to swim. A similar incident occurred in Krasnoyarsk: several teenagers were swimming and diving in Lake Panikovka. A 15-year-old boy did not know how to swim and drowned.

“In prohibited areas, the bottom has not been examined by divers, and there may be snags or debris in the water. In addition, cold bottom currents and funnels are dangerous in such reservoirs. But the main thing is the lack of rescuers and doctors. In an emergency situation, they will not be able to quickly help you. It is also dangerous to swim after drinking alcohol,” warns the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The department reminds that children and teenagers on the shore should not be left without attention. Tragedy can happen in a few minutes. Letting your child swim in the company of peers or alone is not worth it. Due to their age, children are not yet able to assess all the risks and provide assistance correctly.
