Giving up your favorite food is detrimental to weight loss: don’t avoid sweets – advice from a psychologist

If you're trying to lose weight, you've probably given up your favorite unhealthy foods: sweets, fast food, chips. These products really do not bring any benefit to your body, but completely giving up your favorite treats can negatively affect weight loss. Elena Mazankina, director of the Center for Psychology at SamSMU and NTI HealthNet market expert, talks about this phenomenon in more detail.

As the specialist said, giving up your favorite food worsens your mood and causes stress, which triggers overeating. As a result, avoiding goodies leads to the opposite effect, and the person begins to gain weight. According to the specialist, before losing weight, it is important to understand why it is necessary. If for the sake of admiring glances, then you should remember that the main value is your own health and comfort.

“If you feel great in your body, then why force it with strict diets?” Mazankina notes in an interview with RIA Novosti (18+).

The psychologist also emphasized that you should not lose weight by a specific time, for example, by summer, but it is better to focus on long-term changes in your habits. It’s better to start small, for example, gradually add more vegetables to the menu, replace soda with water, and sweets with fruits. You shouldn't rush headlong to the gym either – start with walking or dancing at home to your favorite music.

If the process of losing weight is pleasant, comfortable, gradual, without sudden failures and stress, then the result will not be long in coming.
