Polyus and SIBUR have agreed on a partnership in the field of protecting biodiversity – from sharing experience to disseminating the most successful environmental solutions.

The cooperation agreement was signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by Sergei Zhuravlev, Vice President for Government Relations at Polyus, and Alexey Kozlov, Member of the Board and Managing Director of SIBUR.

The partners intend to summarize the accumulated experience and apply it to improve corporate environmental programs. In addition, the companies plan to jointly implement educational and scientific projects. They will contribute to increased awareness of business and society about the importance of preserving Russia’s natural heritage.

“Preserving the environment and reducing its impact on it has always been a top priority for Polyus,” said Sergei Zhuravlev, Vice President for Government Relations at Polyus. — Over many years, our specialists have accumulated deep expertise in such aspects as risk identification and assessment, methodological developments, regulatory and permitting work and, of course, the implementation of environmental protection measures – from the introduction of closed water circulation to monitoring and programs to support biodiversity in the regions of our operation. Combining this experience with the developments of colleagues from SIBUR will help form a base of proven solutions and projects that will be useful to any business seeking to preserve wildlife.”

A separate area will be the study of the possibilities and experience of introducing Russian technologies for monitoring the state of ecosystems, as well as rare species of animals and plants.

“SIBUR already has dozens of successful cases in the field of biodiversity conservation – from restoring populations of saker falcons in Tatarstan and forest reindeer in the Nizhny Novgorod region to stocking Russian reservoirs with valuable fish species and large-scale forest plantings. And we are ready to share our accumulated expertise. In partnership with Polyus, we plan to open a kind of “library of the best solutions” so that other companies can use ready-made and working tools without wasting time developing them and testing their effectiveness. I’m sure our experience will be useful to the market,” said SIBUR board member Alexey Kozlov.

It should be noted that the Polyus company implements a whole range of measures to preserve biodiversity in the regions of its operations. These include reforestation, land reclamation, restoration of the population of aquatic biological resources, as well as a corporate program to support the protected area “Polyus Protected Area”. These measures are aimed at maintaining natural balance, preventing net losses of biodiversity and complying with Russian legislation.

The goal of the voluntary corporate program “Polyus Protected Territory” is to provide systematic assistance to protected areas and build long-term partnerships with them in the regions of the company’s operations. The program helps maintain the stable state of protected area ecosystems in the regions, as well as the conservation of populations of plants and animals living there.

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, with the support of Polyus, a project for the improvement of the Krasnoyarsk Pillars National Park is being implemented. It is a comprehensive initiative that brings together sustainable tourism infrastructure development, environmental education, scientific research and conservation efforts. The most active phase occurred in 2025, when the national park celebrated its 100th anniversary.
