Exhumations in Volhynia. Ukraine has made an important decision

“Today, at the meeting of the State Interministerial Commission for the Commemoration of Participants in Anti-Terrorist Operations, Victims of War and Political Repression, which I chair, a decision was made to consent to the exhumation of Polish graves in Galicia and Volhynia,” Alfiorov said on social media.
As he pointed out, these are former areas the village of Hołosko Wielkie [obecnie ul. Warszawska we Lwowie]”where Polish soldiers who died in 1939 are buried”, as well as about the burial places of the inhabitants of the former the villages of Ostrówki and Wola Ostrowiecka [obecnie gmina wiejska Równe w powiecie kowelskim na Wołyniu]”who tragically died in August 1943″
Additionally, the commission also supported the “re-exhumation for the purpose of selection and DNA analysis of the remains of 60 Polish soldiers, reburied in 2015-2016 at the cemetery in Mościsk in the Lviv region.”
Breakthrough in the exhumation case. “Of great importance for Polish-Ukrainian relations”
“I would like to thank all members of the Commission for supporting these important decisions. They are of great importance for Polish-Ukrainian relations and constitute a logical continuation of the dialogue on granting mirror permits for research on graves in Ukraine and Poland,” wrote the head of the Institute of National Remembrance of Ukraine.
In the entry, Alfiorov also recalled that the dialogue on this matter was initiated by the governments of Poland and Ukraine in 2022 and was continued by the presidents of both countries in December 2025.
