In the area of ​​the Polish village of Balzazowice in the Opole Voivodeship on the afternoon of May 30, a powerful tornado was recorded. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management of Poland announced this on Facebook on May 31.

The bad weather caused significant damage: buildings were damaged, in some cases roofs were torn off and trees were knocked down.

According to the institute, the strength of the tornado corresponded to level IF1.5-IF2 on the International Fujita Scale. This means very strong winds that can tear off roofs.

In the case of F1, wind speeds can reach 180 km/h, and for F2 – up to 253 km/h, writes RMF24.

The picture after the tornado was “post-apocalyptic,” the mayor of the Ujazd municipality, Hubert Ibrom, said in a media commentary.

The fire service reported that 18 buildings were damaged in Balzazowice. 11 of them are residential buildings. No one was hurt.
