The block hit by drones, reason for attack between parties: PSD wants Miruță's resignation and praises the mayor of Galați / AUR, the party that voted against the law to shoot down drones, also demands resignations

The group of PSD senators demanded the resignation of Radu Miruță, in a message, which was shortly followed by a statement from the party calling on “all political formations” to avoid “internal confrontations on national defense issues”. AUR also demanded the resignation of the entire Government and the organization of early elections. PNL and USR also accused the two parties of blocking essential measures for national security.
In a message posted on Facebook, the PSD Parliamentary Group from the Senate asks for the “definitive resignation from which it has already been dismissed”. In the message, PSD accuses that the incident in Galati “demonstrates, once again, what happens when irresponsibility takes precedence over citizens' safety”.
While they are critical of the USR minister, the former minister from the same party, Ionuț Moșteanu, being invoked, PSD praises its mayor from Galati.
“We send all our congratulations to mayor Ionut Pucheanu and the local authorities in Galați for the quick, firm reaction with which they managed this critical situation,” the social democrats also wrote.
Attacks on the Minister of USR came directly from the top of the PSD. In the first reaction after the incident, Sorin Grindeanu stated that Radu Miruță is part of a dismissed government and that such “dismissed” ministers create vulnerability for the country.
“The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, must get out of the comfort zone of political statements and deal seriously – even if he is dismissed – with equipping the Romanian Army with efficient equipment and systems. Romania urgently needs a new government made up of professionals!”, Grindeanu said on his Facebook page.
Later, the PSD issued a statement in which it appeals to the political parties “to stop the internal confrontations and to act unitedly, in the national interest”.
“In this case, the aggressor is the Russian Federation, and all parties have the duty to put political pride aside and act unitedly to urgently remove the security risks to which Romanian citizens are exposed.
Message from AUR, who voted against the drone shoot down law
In a statement issued a few hours after the drone crash, the AUR demands the departure of the regime that “has become an existential danger for Romania”. Previously, the president of the formation, George Simion, also launched political attacks.
“It was not easy… at the twelfth hour, stop setting fire to the country and let a LEGITIMATE government take over! You have demonstrated your incapacity. You would have been able to blame us even for the drone tonight. Or on this basis to install premiers who do not even have a few percent of the population's vote”, wrote the AUR leader, in a message on Facebook.
The formation criticizes the current government for not having made enough investments in anti-drone capabilities and for making purchases “without transparency and without tenders”.
A year or so ago, however, AUR MPs voted against the law allowing the Army to shoot down drones.
USR and PNL accuse that the country is not “SAFE” because of PSD and AUR
The reply from the USR came from the party president.
“The SAFE program, which includes anti-drone capabilities, protects us. Whoever blocks it is an accomplice,” Fritz wrote on Facebook, referring to the fact that the ordinance for this program was attacked by AUR, through the People's Advocate, and by Sorin Grindeanu, in his capacity as president of the Chamber of Deputies, at the beginning of the month.
Prime Minister Bolojan also spoke about the blockage regarding the SAFE program. He wrote on Facebook about “irresponsible obstructions of all kinds by those who ignore, do not understand or are not bothered by the danger that Russia represents.”
At the same time, PNL MEP Siegfried Mureșan directly names PSD and AUR, parties he accuses of having collaborated in contesting the European defense program.
“Precisely at a moment when the threat of Russia is directly visible at our borders and even on Romanian territory, PSD and AUR choose to block a European program that contributes to strengthening Romania's defense capacity,” Mureșan wrote on Facebook.
PSD and AUR replicas
Later, PSD, in a statement, said that “PSD categorically rejects and condemns the statements (…) that invoke referrals to the Constitutional Court regarding the SAFE legislation, in order to take responsibility for the failure of Romania's defense system.”
The party claims that the notification of Sorin Grindeanu to the CCR has as its only role the elimination of legislative uncertainties.
For its part, the AUR said in a statement that “instead of taking responsibility, the regime's politicians chose in an aberrant and diversionary way to place the blame on the AUR”
“But they have the decision-making power, not the AUR. It is their responsibility to take measures to ensure national security, to protect the lives and property of Romanians. The AUR has no power,” claims Simion's party.
