Orlando Nicoară, the owner of the website “Cotidianul”, offered a brief reaction to HotNews on Thursday after the journalist Sebastian Zachmann resigned from the position of editor-in-chief of the publication and from PrimaTV television, stating that it was a “mutual agreement” decision.
Sebastian Zachmann, with a long experience in the political area, confirmed earlier, for Pagina de Media, that he is leaving the press group he has worked for for the past six years.
Contacted by HotNews and asked to provide an explanation to the public about the journalist's departure, Orlando Nicoară said: “It was a mutual decision. This is the point of view I can offer to the public.”
Orlando Nicoară refused to make any other comment on this topic.
According to Pagina de Media, Sebastian Zachman has confirmed that he has resigned both from the position of editor-in-chief of “Cotidian” and from the television station Prima TV. Zachmann became editor-in-chief of “Cotidianul” in September 2025, shortly after the Clever group took over the publication from Cornel Nistorescu.
At Prima TV, Sebastian Zachmann is the producer of the political show “Insider Politic” by In addition to these two collaborations, Zachmann produces the show “Piața Victoriei” on Europa FM. On Thursday, the day he announced his resignation, he conducted an interview with president Nicușor Dan on Europa FM.
Two weeks ago, the journalist conducted an interview with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and offered a vague statement about his future intentions.
“Because I have a moral responsibility towards the journalists at “Cotidianul”, I will try to find a way to continue working together, even if in another newsroom,” said Zachmann.
Asked by HotNews about this statement by Sebastian Zachman, Orlando Nicoară limited himself to a short comment: “He refers to the journalists he brought to “Cotidianul””.
Zachmann did not provide any other details about what he will do next. It's just that the collaboration with Europa FM will certainly continue, every Thursday, on the “Piaţa Victoriei” show.
Who is Sebastian Zachmann?
A graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy, Zachmann entered the press 15 years ago. From 2011, he worked at Adevărul, where he then headed the political section of the publication. In 2020, Zachman resigned from “Adevărul”, owned by Cristian Burci, and moved to Prima TV, initially as a political correspondent, then as producer of the show “Insider Politic”.
He took over the management of Cotidianul.ro in September 2025, after the publication changed its owner after 15 years.
The publication was bought by the Clever EAD group, which also owns the platforms PrimaNews.ro and Profit.ro, according to Pagina de Media. Before, Cotidianul was owned by the journalist Cornel Nistorescu.
Orlando Nicoară is the director of Clever EAD. He headed the Mediafax Group from 2011 to 2014. Since 2015, Orlando Nicoară has contributed to the launch of publications such as Profit.ro, News.ro, Life.ro.
