The aggressor country Russia plans to send tens of thousands of Armenian citizens to the country on the eve of the parliamentary elections in Armenia. Reuters reported this on May 29, citing its sources.
In Moscow they want them to vote in the elections for competitors of the current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. According to the agency, the Kremlin fears that his victory could consolidate the reorientation of the former Soviet republic to the West.
According to Reuters interlocutors, Russian authorities estimated the cost of transporting 100 thousand voters at about $50 million. By mid-May, the Kremlin distributed quotas among Russian regions – how many Armenians should be sent from each – and demanded a report from local authorities on the preparations.
The agency has not been able to determine whether such a plan is being implemented or whether it would be enough to close the significant gap between leaders.
A poll earlier this month showed Pashinyan's Civil Contract party in first place, with about 30% of the vote. The “Strong Armenia” of his closest rival in the elections, Samvel Karapetyan, takes second place by a large margin – it has about 6%.
