On May 29, the illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin, after a summit in Kazakhstan, denied Russia’s involvement in the drone incident in Romania. He suggested that the UAV could be Ukrainian. A video of this statement was published by the Kremlin’s Telegram channel.
According to Putin, “no one can say” which country a particular UAV belongs to until the wreckage is examined.
He claims that Ukrainian drones have allegedly already flown into Finland, Poland and the Baltic countries. According to his version, at first in such cases there were statements about the involvement of the Russian Federation, but later it allegedly turned out that these were drones of “Ukrainian origin” that went off course due to the operation of electronic warfare systems or technical malfunctions.
“Here, the guard, the Russians are coming, the Russians are beating. Then after a short time it turned out that this had nothing to do with Russian UAVs. In this case, I think that most likely we are talking about exactly this situation,” Putin said.
At the same time, he said that Russia is ready to conduct an “objective investigation” if it is provided with “objective data” about the drone.
The Russian president also mentioned that Moscow had previously allegedly transferred information and fragments of drones to representatives of the American administration, which, according to him, “tried to hit one of the residences of the President of the Russian Federation.”
