Chief Commissioner from the 3rd District Police, arrested after being caught red-handed with 50,000 lei in bribes in a tax evasion case
A chief commissioner of the Police Sector 3 was remanded in custody for 30 days after he was caught red-handed by DNA prosecutors while receiving a 50,000 lei bribe from a person investigated in a tax evasion case.

According to a statement sent on Friday by the National Anticorruption Directorate, it is about Cătălin-George Sîrbu, judicial police officer with the rank of chief commissioner within the Sector 3 Economic Crime Investigation Service.
The judge of rights and freedoms at the Bucharest Court accepted the DNA prosecutors' proposal and ordered his preventive arrest for 30 days.
Investigators say the cop is accused of bribery and influence peddling.
According to anti-corruption prosecutors, in May, Cătălin-George Sîrbu allegedly demanded 50,000 lei from a person investigated as a suspect in a tax evasion case.
According to the DNA, the money would have been requested “for the favorable exercise of official duties in connection with certain criminal investigation documents and for influencing the biased performance of other documents in the criminal file”.
The prosecutors claim that the policeman actually received the amount of money on Thursday, at which time the flagrant act was organized.
“On Thursday, the defendant Cătălin-George Sîrbu received from the person in question the sum of 50,000 lei, a circumstance in which the anti-corruption prosecutors proceeded to establish the flagrant crime“, the investigators said.
The file is being handled by the prosecutors of the Anti-corruption Section of the DNA.
