Dream Island manages visitor expectations using computer vision

May 28 12:02

The Dream Island amusement park has introduced Russia's first system for automatically calculating waiting times for popular attractions.

The project was implemented with technical support from the T1 IT holding. Computer vision technologies monitor the number of visitors in queues in real time. Testing of the solution started in December 2025, in March In 2026, the project was put into operation. In May of this year 12 the most popular attractions were connected to the system. In the near future, the practice is planned to be expanded to all the most visited attractions.

Computer vision algorithms automatically count the number of people in the standard and accelerated queues, estimate their speed and the actual capacity of the attraction. Based on these parameters, the system calculates the time required to serve all guests already in the queue. Waiting time information is displayed on screens before entering the queue; in the near future, the practice is planned to be implemented in the park's mobile application, helping guests choose less crowded attractions and reduce actual waiting time. At the moment, waiting times for visitors are displayed on such popular attractions as Hotel Transylvania, Hammer of Fate, and Tunnel Flight.

“For the Amusement Park, the queue counting project is a tool that provides valuable analytics for operational flow management, efficient operation of attraction operators and increasing the satisfaction of our guests every day. The solution meets all industry standards in the field of security, data collection and processing,” Vladimir Tsypin, Deputy Head of the Attractions Operations Department.

“We were the first in Russia to develop such a solution for an amusement park and showed that computer vision can not just count people in a frame, but transform this data into an indicator that is understandable for guests and business – waiting time in line,” noted Sergei Golitsyn, head of T1 AI (T1 IT holding).

The project in “Dream Island” can become a starting point in creating a replicable product for the entertainment industry.
