PSOE spokeswoman Montse Minguez told Radio Catalunya that the party authorities remain calm and cooperate fully with the investigating authorities, stressing that any information requested will be forwarded to the services. According to EFE's findings, the case concerns payments made to former PSOE member Leire Diez.

The case conducted by the Spanish services also includes an investigation into the former president of the state industrial holding SEPI, Vicente Fernandez, and the owner of the Servinabar company, Antxon Alonso, who is considered an accomplice of former PSOE secretary Santos Cerdan in connection with allegations of accepting bribes when awarding public contracts.

Diez, Fernandez and Alonso were arrested in December 2025 on charges of embezzlement, influence peddling and membership in a criminal group. They allegedly formed a group called Hirurok (“We three” in Basque), which manipulated “various matters in the public administration, for their own benefit or the benefit of third parties”, using their position to obtain “maximum financial benefits by collecting commissions”, EFE recalled.

Sanchez's party is struggling with multiple corruption scandals. Last week, a court ruled that former socialist prime minister and close Sanchez ally Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero is under investigation for running an influence-peddling and money-laundering ring.
