US President Donald Trump took off on Friday to Rome, where he and his wife Melania will attend Pope Francis's funerals on Saturday, along with leaders from all over the world, AFP reports.
The US president is expected to arrive in the capital of Italy around 22:50.
“We will meet many foreign leaders,” Trump told the press just before leaving the White House, without giving any other details.
Dozens of heads of state and government confirmed their presence on Saturday, in Rome, at Pope Francis's funerals, died on Monday.
The Vatican announced on Thursday the presence of 50 heads of state and ten in exercise, specifying that 130 foreign delegates are confirmed for Pope Francis, who will take place in Saint Peter Square.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski says that on Saturday, when Pope Francis is taking place, he must participate in a “series of meetings” related to Russia on Thursday on Kiev, so he may not reach Rome.
Zelenski, who had previously announced that the pope's funeral would participate, said on Friday evening that, “if I am not there in time, Ukraine will be represented at an adequate level,” specifying that the Foreign Minister and the first lady of Ukraine will be present.
