Poland wants to ease limits on cash payments
Rules on cash payment limits were adopted by the EU in 2024. The new regulations apply to both companies and individuals. They also introduce the obligation to verify the customer's identity for cash transactions exceeding PLN 3,000. euro, i.e. the equivalent of approx. 12 thousand zloty.
Under EU rules, Member States may have stricter rules in this respect. Poland is one of the countries where the law regarding cash payments is the most stringent. However, work is underway to raise the limit on cash payments in business-to-business transactions. The current limit is 15,000. PLN and applies only to B2B payments, transactions of private persons are not covered by it.

The project submitted to the Sejm on this matter assumes raising the limit in Poland to PLN 25,000. zloty. This is intended, among others, to: eliminating the effects of inflation and adapting regulations to current economic realities. According to Prawa.pl, this is also intended to free a huge number of contracts between micro-enterprises from the obligation of strict reporting and enable savings on commissions and banking costs. The project would be in force from January 1, 2026.
