Razie in Sintesti, where illegal burning of waste takes place. “One of the biggest control actions” in recent years

Dozens of law enforcement officers descended on Monday morning near Bucharest, in the town of Sinteşti, Ilfov county, as well as at the addresses of 5 REMAT centers, after several weeks of drone monitoring.

Gendarmes, policemen and representatives of the Environmental Guard carry out large-scale controls throughout the day on Monday in the village of Vidra, Ilfovea commune, where illegal burning of waste has been taking place for several years.

“The purpose of the action was to carry out complex controls regarding the carrying out of waste operations, namely their collection, recycling, storage, transport and recovery, as well as the verification of compliance with the incident legal framework. At the same time, at the level of the 5 collection centers, checks were carried out regarding the provenance, highlighting in documents and traceability of metal waste, as well as compliance with legal obligations by economic operators in the field,” IPJ Ilfov representatives said, quoted by News.ro.

As part of the activities carried out, 24 vehicles were identified at one of the centers that allegedly contained quantities of non-ferrous materials, following which the representatives of the National Environmental Guard, together with the Ilfov policemen, will carry out checks to establish the factual situation and order the necessary legal measures.

“Up to now, 494 people have been registered and 334 vehicles have been checked. Also, 2 offenses provided for by GEO No. 92/2021 regarding the waste regime have been found and 57 contravention sanctions have been applied. At the same time, amounts of 5 m³ of waste and 100 kg of waste have been confiscated, and the total value of the sanctions applied is for 70,000 lei. 12 vehicles were made unavailable during the action”, stated IPJ Ilfov.

The interim Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced that this is “one of the biggest control actions” in Sinteşti and in the localities in the area in recent years.

“It is an investigation from the last months in which the area was monitored, and the footage will be sent as evidence for the criminal authorities,” Buzoianu said.

According to the Environmental Guard, the area was monitored for 3 weeks, including with drones.

In the area of ​​Sintești village in Vidra commune, lfov county, environmental problems are often complained about, caused by the illegal burning of waste. The village is located a few kilometers from Bucharest, and the smoke is carried by the air currents and frequently reddens the sensors that measure the air quality in the Capital. In recent years, controls have been carried out, but the phenomenon of illegal burning of waste has not been eradicated.
