The 2026-2027 school year calendar has been published. What a major change the Ministry of Education is making

The courses of the 2026-2027 school year would start on September 7 and end on June 18, according to the draft order regarding the structure of the next school year, put out for public consultation by the Ministry of Education. The main change is that the interval in which the holiday week in February can be chosen is reduced to two weeks, instead of three.
For grade VIII, classes end on June 11, 2027, and for grade XII, classes end on June 4, 2027.
The draft order was put out for public consultation on Friday.
2027 – 2027 school year calendar. When will the students go to classes?
The project foresees 37 weeks of courses for most students, organized in five modules. Exceptions are students from final years, i.e. from the 8th, 12th and 13th grades in the evening and with reduced attendance.
- from Monday, September 7, 2026 to Friday, October 23, 2026;
- from Monday, November 2, 2026 to Tuesday, December 22, 2026;
- from Monday, January 11, 2027, to Friday, February 19, 2026, respectively Friday, February 13, 2026 or Friday, February 20, 2027 or Friday, February 26, 2027, as the case may be, at the decision of the ISJ/ISMB following consultations with the beneficiaries of education, their parents/legal representatives and teaching staff;
- from Monday, March 1, 2027, respectively Monday, March 8, 2027, until Friday, April 23, 2027;
- from Wednesday, May 5, 2027 to Friday, June 18, 2027.
Students in the 8th and 12th grades, who have to take the National Assessment, respectively the Baccalaureate, will finish the school year earlier.
- for the 12th daytime, 13th evening and reduced attendance classes, the school year has a duration of 34 weeks of classes and ends on June 5, 2026;
- for the 8th grade, the school year has a duration of 35 weeks of classes and ends on June 11, 2027;
- for classes in high school education – the technological branch and for classes in professional education, the school year has a duration of 37 weeks of courses and ends on June 25, 2027;
- for post-secondary education classes, the duration of the courses is the one established by the education framework plans in force.
What holidays will students have in the 2026-2027 school year
- October 24 – November 1, 2026;
- December 23, 2026 – January 10, 2026;
- One week, at the decision of the school inspectorates, between February 22 and March 7, 2027;
- April 24 – May 4, 2027;
- June 19 – September 5, 2027.
The “Different School” and “Green Week” programs take place between September 7, 2026 and April 23, 2027, in intervals of 5 consecutive days.
International Education Day, October 5, will be a day off for students and teachers.
The order also provides that, in case of suspension of classes, recovery is done only during the school year, not during vacations.
The 2025-2026 school year began on Monday, September 8, 2025, and will end on Friday, June 19, 2026.
