A surprising decision by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar
The Hungarian Prime Minister announced cuts in the salaries of the political elite in an interview with RTL television on Saturday. He then revealed that his monthly salary would be reduced to 3.8 million forints gross (approx. PLN 45,600), which would include 2.3 million forints of salary for the position of prime minister and 1.5 million forints for serving as an MP.
As Hungarian media remind us, the last reported gross monthly salary of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was 7.8 million forints (approx. PLN 93,600).
Peter Magyar also announced that the monthly earnings limit for MPs who could apply for subsidies for fuel, accommodation or office maintenance would be reduced from 7 to 5 million forints. The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that the management staff of state-owned companies, as well as members of supervisory and advisory boards, will also have to take into account salary reductions.
