The NATO mission in Iraq, launched in 2018 at the request of the Iraqi government, is a non-combat mission whose aim is to advise and strengthen the military potential and ensure Iraq's security.

The war in the Middle East began on February 28 after the United States and Israel attacked Iran. In response, Tehran and its affiliated armed groups attacked US targets in the region, including military bases and diplomatic missions. On March 13, a drone strike on a military base in Iraq's Kurdish region killed one French soldier and injured six others.
