The working session led by President Nicușor Dan, in which the incident caused by the maritime drones that exploded in the port and off the Black Sea was analyzed, has ended

On this occasion, the necessary measures to strengthen the defense and security on the Romanian coast of the Black Sea were evaluated.

“We had a long meeting both on yesterday's event and on the general context to what extent we are prepared for this type of event. We had a Ukrainian drone part of a set of four. We have to say very clearly that Ukraine is the aggressor country. Russia is responsible. Because Russia is the aggressor country in this war

There were some issues in the public space and I will answer them.

In this type of situations some protocols are provided and the activities started immediately. The first part is clearing the perimeter including moving some ships. As of 6:57 the operation was according to protocol. At 10 o'clock there was information that the drone would self-detonate at 10:26. At 10 a.m. and a few minutes later, all the people involved in this mission left the perimeter,” said the president Nicușor Dan.

“There was a situation in which we had military cargo in a civilian area and according to protocol the civil authority notified the responsible authorities, namely the army and the SRI. In parallel, they alerted the civil protection authorities whoe secured the area affected by people so as not to be in danger”, the president also said.

The president also talked about the ship that was speculated to be from the Russian fleet.

“There was speculation that these drones were following a vessel from the Russian ghost fleet that unloaded oil at Rompetrol. It is not a vessel from the ghost fleet, but a vessel that made trade routes between the Russian port used by Kazakhstan for oil exports and Rompetrol. He did this route several times. Of course, the investigation about what happened and how these drones arrived near the port of Constanța. We will have an answer to this question in 7-10 days”, according to Nicușor Dan.

How prepared is Romania for this type of events

“Obviously it is a new technology which was developed in the context of this war and not even from the beginning of this war.

We are all adapting to the technology this war has spawned. Romania is in the process of an endowment process on the naval side.

Equipment will arrive in Romania next month. The Romanian state correctly anticipated this type of threats and I remind you that there is a NATO center with the participation of Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania and this NATO security center has a leadership and a rotational presence and in 2028 it will operate in Romania in Constanța”, the president also mentioned.
