Leleka told the truth about the political behind-the-scenes of Eurovision and the reaction to the slogan “Glory to Ukraine!”

Ukrainian singer Leleka (Victoria Leleka) in a commentary to “BBC News Ukraine” told what the reaction of the organizers of Eurovision 2026 was to the fact that after her performance in the grand final of the competition she shouted the slogan throughout Europe: “Glory to Ukraine!”

According to the artist, who represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2026 with the song Ridnym, the rules prohibited proclaiming any political messages within the framework of the song competition. However, she did not receive any comments after she said the slogan, and in the second semi-final she showed a trident.

“If someone tried it, I would immediately make khachapuri out of that person,” she assured. “But, of course, there is a ban on talking about the war at this competition, unfortunately.”

The singer added that it was important for her to convey to Europeans messages that are important for Ukrainians.

“To do this within the framework in which we were placed, and to talk about what is important to us. We were forced to talk about it only through the methods of art and indirectly,” the singer shared. “But we did it.”
