The head of the board of the public organization “Anti-Corruption Center” Vitaly Shabunin was demobilized from the Ukrainian Defense Forces based on the results of the military medical commission. He reported this on Telegram.
“My service is completed. Having lost most of my vision, I am leaving the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where I voluntarily mobilized on the first day of the great war,” he wrote, publishing the decision of the Military Military Commission in the comments.
Shabunin stated that for half of his term he served in the front-line zone in eastern Ukraine, the rest of the time in Kharkov and Kyiv. He indicated that he continued to investigate corruption in the army and the Ministry of Defense, “being a simple soldier in a rigid army vertical.”
According to the activist, his “service has been turned into a circus,” controlling the completion of tasks, making transfers and preventing the opportunity to fully defend himself in court.
“I am sincerely sorry that the last time of my service passed this way. I could have served the defense forces much more effectively (and did everything possible for this). But the senior management saw my role and place in the Armed Forces of Ukraine only this way. I joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the first day of the war as a soldier, and am leaving as a senior sergeant. They refused to sign my officer’s contract [на тот момент] minister of defense [Рустем ]Died,” says Shabunin.
In the post, he called for the implementation of army reform to “distinguish between newcomers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and those who volunteered more than four years ago” in matters of demobilization timing.
“The dismissal order was signed a few days ago. I’m already at home. I’ll spend time with my family, stabilize my vision disease and fully return to the activities of the Center,” he concluded.
