On May 14, the Washington office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced a reward of $200 thousand for assistance in the arrest of military and former US counterintelligence officer Monica Witt, accused of spying for Iran. This was reported on the official website of the bureau.
According to American law enforcement officials, in February 2019 she was charged with espionage, in particular with transferring information about US national defense to the Iranian government.
Witt is known to have served in the military from 1997 to 2008, after which she worked for the US government for two years, which, according to the case file, could have given her access to classified intelligence information and the names of undercover personnel. In 2013, the FBI said, she fled to Iran, where she could provide classified information to the country's government and help gather information about her former colleagues in the American government.
Now the woman is at large, so the feds are actively working to establish her whereabouts.
