LPG in Poland without Russian gas. New import leaders on the market


Russian LPG, which until recently was one of the main raw materials imported to Poland, is losing importance as a result of EU sanctions. In December 2024, a ban was introduced on the import of most fractions of liquefied gas from Russia, although it did not cover pure butane and isobutane. POGP reminds that the total ban on the import of LPG from Russia, covering all fractions, entered into force on January 26, 2026.

LPG in Poland: a key fuel in transport and energy
LPG remains the third most important transport fuel in Poland, accounting for over eight percent. total fuel sales. As POGP notes, liquefied gas also plays an important role in the national energy mix, especially in areas where the network infrastructure is poorly developed.. In such places, LPG is difficult to replace.
POGP General Director, Bartosz Kwiatkowski, pointed out that approximately 70 percent LPG imported to Poland currently comes from Western and Northern European countries.

At the same time, import from the United States, which is the largest producer of LPG in the world, is becoming more and more important. Kwiatkowski emphasized that American deliveries to Europe are breaking records, and in the first half of 2025, as many as two thirds of LPG deliveries to North Sea ports came from the USA.
New leaders in LPG imports to Poland
In 2025, the largest supplier of LPG to Poland was Sweden, which accounted for approximately 25%. import. The next places were taken by Norway (17%) and the United States (14%), which moved up to third place during the year.

Despite EU sanctions that limited the import of Russian LPG, the increase in supplies of pure butane from Russia indicates changes in business models, not increased industrial demand. Imports of this gas fraction increased even fourfold after the introduction of the 12th sanctions package.
