During the May weekend, Russians more often chose not only the usual tourist routes for trips abroad, but also rare countries in Asia and South America. Africa remained the third most popular destination.
This is evidenced by roaming analytics based on anonymized data from MegaFon subscribers.
A particularly noticeable increase in demand was recorded in the countries of South America. Here, significant growth was shown by Venezuela (+63%), Uruguay (+55%), Brazil (+52%), Colombia (+42%) and Ecuador (+27%). This trend highlights the growing interest of Russians in exotic destinations outside of traditional resorts.
Similar enthusiasm is observed for Asian countries. Travelers are increasingly choosing routes that until recently were considered exotic: Vietnam (+131%), Mongolia (+39%), China (+37%), Myanmar (+35%), Macau (+34%).
Interest in long-distance destinations is also spreading to the Middle East. Here, Saudi Arabia became the undisputed favorite among Russians, where demand increased by 42%. This may be due to the development of tourism infrastructure in the country and the emergence of new interesting routes.
