In Russia, from September 1, women with children under three years old will be prohibited from dismissal from a new place based on the results of the probationary period. Previously, such a guarantee was valid only for mothers with children under one and a half years old.

As “Bulletin of the Surgut Region” writes with reference to Natalya Strebkova, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, the amendments should reduce the level of stress when a woman returns from maternity leave.

However, not everyone evaluates the innovation unambiguously. Stock market expert Kirill Seleznev, in a commentary for Gazeta.ru, noted that such a measure could provoke employers not to hire women with small children at all. According to him, about 80% of vacancies require a probationary period, and this is the only way for companies to reduce the risks of hiring. At the same time, approximately 20% of employers still do not hire mothers with small children, knowing that they will often take sick leave.

There is still a widespread belief among employers that women with children often leave early, refuse overtime and take sick leave. Because of this, many companies, even with a shortage of personnel, do not consider mothers as employees.
