Fuel prices are rising due to the conflict in the Middle East. Orlen reacts

After Tuesday's corrections, which brought some relief to users of diesel and the “ninety-five”, Wednesday was marked by increases in all types of fuels.

Significant jumps in Orlen's price list
High-octane gasoline rose the most in price.
- SuperPlus 98: increase o PLN 103to the level of PLN 6,166/cubic m;
- Eurosuper 95: increase o PLN 95to the level of PLN 5,616/cubic m;
- Eco-diesel: increase o PLN 78to the level of PLN 6,112/m3.
This is a clear change in the trend compared to Tuesday, when the wholesale price of EU95 petrol dropped by PLN 14 and diesel by PLN 85. The current increases reflect the anxiety on global stock exchanges that has been ongoing for several days, where after the US and Israel's attack on Iran, oil prices rose by nearly 8% in a short period of time.
The “Fuel Prices Lower” protective umbrella still works. This is how much you will pay for fuel
Despite drastic wholesale changes, retail prices at Polish stations are not increasing at the same pace thanks to the “Fuel Prices Lower” regulatory package, which has been in force since March 31. The Ministry of Energy publishes daily announcements about maximum prices above which sellers cannot price a liter of fuel.

According to current guidelines, the following limits apply at stations on Wednesday:
- Gasoline 95: maximum PLN 6.28/l (down by 2 groszy compared to Tuesday);
- Gasoline 98: maximum PLN 6.87/l (an increase of 6 groszy compared to Tuesday);
- Diesel: maximum PLN 6.84/l (down by 9 cents compared to Tuesday).
It is worth recalling that tax shields are still in force – VAT on fuels is reduced to 8%, and excise duty is at the lowest level permitted in the EU. Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka announced on Monday that the shielding program will probably be extended for another two weeks.
Global context: stalemate in the Middle East
Although domestic wholesale prices are rising, there were signs of slight calming down from global stock exchanges on Wednesday. Oil prices recorded declines of over 1.3%. A barrel of Brent crude oil currently costs USD 106.35, and American WTI – USD 100.79.
