A source of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey said on Thursday, May 15, that instead of direct peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, trilateral meetings will be in Istanbul.

The discussions between the Russians and the Ukrainians did not start and none of the parties could confirm that they will take place on Friday. In contrast, according to the Turkish Ministry, there will be “another series of meetings in different formats”, notes Agerpres.

“Trilateral negotiations between the United States, Ukraine, Turkey,” on the one hand, and between “The Russian Federation, Ukraine and Turkey”,
On the other hand, it is on the agenda, the source said. “It is not certain that a meeting will take place in a quadipartite format (United States, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey),”
mentioned the official from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Although Ukraine is dissatisfied with the rank of the delegation sent Ala Istanbul by Russia and the absence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Volodimir Zelenski has finally decided to send a delegation to negotiations with Moscow to Istanbul. This will be led by the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Rustem Humorov.

Also, the delegation will also be responsible from the army and secret services, and its mandate will be to obtain an armistice, he announced at a press conference in Ankara Ukrainian president, after a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan.
