Bogdan Ivan, PSD first vice-president, explained the party's strategy at the consultations in Cotroceni

The Social Democratic Party will appear at the consultations organized by President Nicușor Dan at the Cotroceni Palace with an “open mandate”, without a clear proposal for the position of prime minister. In an interview given to “Adevărul”, Bogdan Ivan, first vice-president of the PSD and former Minister of Energy in the Bolojan government, explained that the PSD is first waiting to find out the position of President Nicușor Dan, and a decision on the future governing formula will be taken later, in the statutory forums.

Also, the social-democratic leader avoided a clear answer about supporting a possible minority government alongside the UDMR, but emphasized the need for the rapid installation of a new executive.
The truth: With what mandate will PSD go to the talks with the president?
Bogdan Ivan: With a very open mandate. We trust the party president who was at all the discussions. We want a functional government as soon as possible, and the delegation of the Social Democratic Party, headed by president Sorin Grindeanu, has an open mandate from the team to find the best formula.
The truth: So you won't go with an actual prime ministerial proposal.
Bogdan Ivan: Let's see in the main talks with the president, let's see what is the optics of his rule and depending on that, we are the ones who come up with solutions. We are constructive in order to have a new government as quickly as possible to solve the problems facing Romania today.
“It is important to have a functioning government as quickly as possible”
The truth: But which variant would you favor at this moment among those exposed?
Bogdan Ivan: At the moment we are waiting for the discussion with the president of Romania, because he is the one who has the most important position in these negotiations. I also have total confidence in the president Nicușor Dan and the PSD president, Sorin Grindeanu, that they will find a formula in which the Social Democratic Party – I think it is very important – will be in government and give Romanians hope. For this reason, the former government building did not work.
The truth: Is the scenario of a minority government alongside the UDMR the one you prefer at the moment?
Bogdan Ivan: We are not talking about preferences. How we decided to enter the government and withdraw the support of Ilie Bolojan in an extended form of consultation with 5,000 colleagues from all over the Social Democratic Party, with 5,000 leaders from all over the country, we will decide this time as well. Let's see what is the emerging majority, what is the most favorable scenario. Because the most important thing is to have a functioning government as quickly as possible.
We know, when we look at history, that every time we had a prime minister from the Social Democratic Party, somewhere every 13 years, in the last 35 years, not as some say that it was only PSD in government, statistically, according to data from the INS, we had economic growth. So we know what we have to do.
