The court ordered the tour operator to compensate a resident of Krasnoyarsk for damages for a foreign vacation ruined by theft.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, the incident occurred in the summer of 2024. A resident of Krasnoyarsk bought a trip to Thailand with accommodation in a double bungalow of a category hotel “3 stars”. But returning one day from the excursion, the tourist discovered that a safe was missing from his room, which contained his money in the amount of $2,000 (just over 182,000 rubles at the exchange rate at that time).
“The fact of theft was officially recorded by law enforcement agencies of the island of Phuket. The man filed a claim with the tour operator, rightly believing that the tour operator should compensate for losses caused as a result of violation of the consumer’s right to the safety of tourist services. However, the demands were ignored, which forced him to go to court,” Rospotrebnadzor said.
The Sverdlovsk District Court partially satisfied the claim, collecting 225,000 rubles from Krastravel LLC in favor of the tourist. And in March of this year, the Krasnoyarsk Regional Court in the appellate instance revised the decision and increased the amount of compensation to 277,533 rubles.
