Alexandru, a five-year-old boy reported missing, is wanted by hundreds of people in Sibiu

A 5-year-old boy is wanted by the Sibiu police on Tuesday morning, after his father reported him missing a day ago.
The search and rescue operations for the five-year-old boy, who disappeared on Monday afternoon in Sebeșu de Jos, Turnu Roșu commune, were resumed on Tuesday morning, at 07:00, after they were stopped around 04:00 due to unfavorable weather conditions, according to Agerpres.
According to the Sibiu County Police Inspectorate (IPJ), currently, activities are in full swing, and approximately 130 people (MAI staff and volunteers) were mobilized in the field to find the minor.
Drones with thermal imaging are also used in the search operation, considering that the town of Sebeșu de Jos is located in an area with forests and hard-to-reach lands.
On Monday evening, the Sibiu police announced that tracking dogs, gendarmes, Salvamont teams and a helicopter from the General Aviation Inspectorate were also involved in the search operation, according to the local publication Turnul Sfatului.
“On 11.05.2026, the workers of the Tălmaciu City Police were alerted by the said Zestrea Toma about the fact that his minor son, ZERESTEA TOMA – ALEXANDRU, aged 5, left the outskirts of Sebeșu de Jos, Rusca area, in an unknown direction and never returned. Reportedly: Height 100 cm, hair Brown, short. Clothing: Blue blouse, gray sports pants. Particular signs: Not present”, announced IPJ Sibiu.

The disappearance was reported on Monday evening by a call to 112. According to Alba24, the child's father was working on repairing a fence, and the little boy was playing in the area. At some point, the child could no longer be found by the parents, who immediately launched a search, but to no avail.
The authorities also issued a RO-ALERT message calling on citizens, if they have information that could help find the child, to urgently contact the nearest police unit or call the single emergency number 112.
